What if I Can’t be there to Accept Delivery

An Allied member delivering parcels

Moving day rarely goes exactly as planned, and with everything going on – especially during a relocation to Bulgaria – it can be tough to figure out exactly when to take time off to meet the truck. But here’s the thing: Allied drivers can’t deliver your belongings if no one is there to receive them.

Someone needs to be on-site to unlock doors, direct the movers, and legally sign off on the delivery. If you can’t be there yourself, don’t panic – you have options. But it’s important to plan ahead.

When your movers arrive, someone has to let them in and guide them through the unloading. Boxes and furniture need to go to the right rooms, and some items – like beds – may require assembly. Just as importantly, a legal adult must be present to check the inventory, sign the delivery paperwork, and handle payment.

If you’re unavailable, you can assign a trusted designee to act on your behalf. This should be someone responsible, familiar with your belongings, and capable of communicating clearly with the moving team. Many people choose a close friend, sibling, roommate, or parent – someone who knows how to spot if something’s missing or damaged.

For things to run smoothly, prepare your designee in advance:

▸ Provide house keys and access to garages or outdoor sheds

▸ Give them clear room labels and a basic floorplan, if possible

▸ Explain where furniture should go and what needs reassembly

▸ Write down any special instructions or concerns

Most importantly, make sure they have your bill of lading, moving inventory list, and a way to pay. Many expats in Bulgaria choose to give their designee a check or a credit card to handle final payment. Have them check off items as they’re delivered. If they sign the paperwork without reviewing the condition of your belongings, it could limit your ability to file a claim later.

If you truly don’t have anyone who can stand in for you – perhaps you’re new to Varna, Bulgaria or still waiting on a visa – talk to your moving coordinator about rescheduling. Keep in mind that rescheduling during peak season can delay your delivery, especially for removals to Bulgaria part load or long-distance international moving.

If the conflict is work-related, consider discussing it with your employer. Most understand how disruptive moving can be and may be more flexible than you expect. After all, they want you focused and ready – not stressing over whether your couch is sitting outside with no one to receive it.

Ultimately, your designee is stepping into your shoes on a very important day. Choose someone who’s detail-oriented, reliable, and confident enough to make quick decisions. You’ll have more peace of mind – and a smoother move – knowing your delivery is in capable hands.

At Allied, The Careful Movers, we know every move to or from Bulgaria comes with its own timing challenges. Whether it’s a local relocation, a removals to Bulgaria part load, or a full international move, our team is here to help you plan around life’s curveballs.
