Packing the Dining Room: China, Crystal, and Chandeliers
China and crystal routinely carry some of the highest per-item replacement values of anything in a household move, which is why Allied logs any dining-room piece above a set threshold onto a High-Value Inventory list before it ever reaches a box. Sofia, Plovdiv, and Varna households moving with Allied consistently name the dining room as the space they worry about most — understandably, since it holds fine china, crystal stemware, silverware, and decorative pieces that don’t tolerate rough handling.
Chandeliers, Artwork, and Mirrors Get Crated, Not Wrapped
Request a custom crate from your Allied team for chandeliers, framed artwork, or mirrors rather than attempting a standard box-and-wrap approach. One rule applies across the board: packing paper should never touch an oil painting directly, regardless of how many layers are used.
China and Glassware
- Wrap every piece individually in clean paper
- Add several layers of padding plus a double layer of newsprint for stemware and anything with a thin rim
- Label boxes clearly: “FRAGILE – THIS SIDE UP”
Flatware and Silver
Wrap each piece separately to prevent tarnishing, using plastic wrap or anti-tarnish paper rather than plain newsprint. Fill any empty space inside silverware chests so pieces can’t shift and scratch each other in transit.
Figurines and Curios
Small collectibles need tissue paper first, then a layer of cushioned paper, before going into a small box with soft padding on all sides — the goal is zero movement inside the carton, not just wrapping the item itself.
Lamps and Lampshades
Wrap lamp bases separately from their shades. Shades themselves need tissue or a soft towel, never newspaper, and should be labeled “LAMP SHADES – FRAGILE – TOP LOAD ONLY” so they don’t end up under heavier boxes.
Furniture and Rugs
Upholstered dining chairs get shrink-wrapped before loading. Rugs should be cleaned and rolled ahead of moving day. Table leaves and any exposed furniture corners need padding and securing so they arrive without dents or scratches.
